The FSM Connectivity Project addresses the severe digital divide in the FSM by expanding access to affordable and reliable broadband internet across its dispersed islands. The project began in 2015 and has since delivered submarine fiber optic cables to Yap and Chuuk, with Kosrae scheduled to be connected through the East Micronesia Cable (EMC). It also includes technical assistance for telecommunications reform, support for the state-owned operator (FSMTCC), and regulatory capacity building through the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA). The long-term goal is to connect every government building and household on the main islands, enabling equitable digital access and fostering social and economic development through improved ICT services and digital literacy.
