Agrees with Government to Focus on Development Progress and Future Resilience
World Bank’s newly appointed Division Director for the North and South Pacific, Tatiana A. Proskuryakova, made her first official visit to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from September 20 to 22, 2026, signalling continued cooperation between the international financial institution and the FSM Government.
The visit provided an opportunity for discussions with government leaders and other key stakeholders on ongoing development initiatives and future priorities. Ms Proskuryakova was accompanied by Mr Gailius Draugelis, Operations Manager for the World Bank.
The visit came shortly after Ms Proskuryakova’s appointment became effective on July 1, 2026. She is leading efforts to mobilize additional financial resources from development partners to help North Pacific nations strengthen their capacity to respond to current and future emergencies.
The delegation participated in site visits across Pohnpei to observe the impact of World Bank-supported projects and to engage directly with communities benefiting from development programs.
A central component of the visit was an abbreviated Joint Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR), which brought together representatives from national ministries, implementing agencies, project implementation units, the Central Implementation Unit, the Department of Finance and Administration and the World Bank Country Management Unit led by Mr Omar Lyasse, the Resident Representative .
The review assessed the effectiveness, results, impact and sustainability of World Bank-financed operations in FSM. It also examined challenges and bottlenecks affecting project delivery and evaluated progress on actions agreed upon during the previous CPPR held on April 10, 2026.
World Bank officials emphasized the value of the longstanding partnership between the institution and the Federated States of Micronesia and expressed optimism that the visit will further strengthen collaboration in advancing economic development, infrastructure improvement, and resilience-building efforts across the nation.
