Pohnpei Islands Central High School Launches Inaugural Performance Grant Program

Pohnpei Islands Central High School has recently begun its first-ever Performance Grant program, a new initiative supported by the Skills and Employability Enhancement (SEE) project.  This project, implemented by the National Department of Education and financed by The World Bank, aims to strengthen vocational education and skills development throughout the country.

The Performance Grant program is designed to provide high schools in FSM with incentives to improve their vocational education programs.  By offering financial support, the program encourages schools to enhance the quality of their training, ensuring that students gain the skills and knowledge necessary for success in their future careers.

During a recent staff retreat, PICS leadership and staff revisited their current Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and identified areas for improvement, essential for enhancing the employability of FSM’s youth by equipping them with relevant skills and competencies.  Vice Principal Rolter Olter assured that the concerns and suggestions raised during the retreat will be addressed through the Performance Grant program and in close collaboration with the Pohnpei and National Departments of Education.

Pohnpei Islands Central High School’s participation in this program reflects its commitment to improving education and fostering innovation.  Alongside Kosrae High School, Yap High School, and Chuuk High School, PICS will be part of this program from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024, setting an example of what can be achieved with the right support and a shared vision for the future.
